Josh > At the Unity Forestry meet this fall, there was a event called fire-build. In this event, two people build a fire as fast as they can to get a pot of water boiled. You start with a block of wood, knife, and hatchet, and have to build a fire to boil. Here is a friend of mine, Chris Farmer, blowing on the fire just as the pot boils.
Josh > This picture is from the 50 support station I was at. The 50 is a 53.6 mile hike straight from Hanover to Mt. Moosilauke in New Hampshire. About 30 people do the hike each year, and every 10 miles along the trail is a support station. I was the EMT at the Atwill Hill support station this year, and while waiting for hikers to come, we built a fire and chilled for a bit. This is a picture from that, with the flame in the lower left hand corner.
Josh > An interesting picture of a cross-cut saw of ours at the Unity Forestry Meet this past fall.
Josh > The fire-build event again, but this time the women's team with Vicki Allen doing a marvelous job of keeping the fire going.
Josh > Sunset on the Trescott Road side of Velvet Rocks. This is a relatively new hardwood forest. Just a half mile back on the trail I was in a pure stand of White Pine. Quite interesting contrast in forest in such a short time.
Josh > Coming back from a work trip on Moose Mountain, the trail was quite wet. While it was annoying on the approach, coming back it provided a good opportunity for the photograph.
Josh > This shot is actually take 25 feet up this nice White Pine that presented itself on the side of the trail. I am about 2 miles outside of Hanover - a direct walk from my dorm.
Josh > Sunset again.
